During the installation process, cables were run, brackets were welded, radars were installed, and sensors were integrated. The system is fixed installed and integrated into the bridge of the vessel. Johannes Pinl, CEO and founder of MARSS, explained that the NiDAR system was specifically developed for the Asterix, which lacks a dedicated war room. While the unarmed Asterix has a softkill capability, it can be integrated with other ships’ weapons when at sea. The NiDAR system, which relies on artificial intelligence (AI), is designed to detect and respond to potential threats, ranging from softkill defense to hardkill weapons. Site acceptance for the system took place in early August. The C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aerial System) technology was installed on the Asterix during a three-week dry dock period in July. The replenishment and supply ship Asterix, the largest vessel in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), has been equipped with the NiDAR system developed by MARSS. ![]()
